la-ti-Da benefits

La-ti-Da Music strives to provide an encouraging creative environment for your child to explore and grow along with the number one influence in his or her life... YOU! Come join us for musical fun!

Taught by Aubrey Myers musician and artist with over 11 years experience working creatively with children.

What can families get from music class?

Parents get to bond with their child enjoying his or herself expressing through music in a special way. Parents will see first hand the positive effects music has on everyone’s life.

Music education has been carefully and intensely research and the effects are greatly positive.  Parent involvement is required in class because we believe that parents and caregivers are the primary teacher in a child’s life.  Who better to learn from than the person a child spends the most time with?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a La-ti-Da Music Class like?

La-ti-Da Music Classes are about forty five minutes long and include an artistically conceived flow of songs, nursery rhymes, instrumental jam sessions, fingerplays, and movement activities.  The combination and types of activities are research-based and support children’s developing competence in tonality and rhythm.  Additionally, activities evolve from the child’s world and include vocal play, animal sounds, rhythm play, language play, and a good bit of genuine fun.

My child is under 7 months.  Are they too young to attend a La-ti-Da music Class?

No.  Babies start to move to the rhythm and sound of their mothers voice in the womb.  This process is an integral part of a child's development just as it is now when you sing to your baby.  This bonding experience will set the foundation for later more active learning.  We have a special class for our Babies full of lap songs, finger songs, bouncing, swaying, rocking, "drum boat" songs, instruments and more.

My child no longer sings and dances along but quietly watches the other children and parents participate n music.  Is my child bored or has he or she outgrown the program?

Most likely your child has gotten to the stage in development where he or she has started to recognize his or her own self in comparison to the outside world.  At this stage a child does a lot more passive learning in the form of observation.  Please do not force your child to actively participate.  If he or she wants to watch while taking in the musical activity then that's the point which he or she is at in music development.   Now if a child is neither passively or actively participating but rather gazing off or doing other activities then maybe there's something else going on.

It is important to keep an open dialogue with the teacher about these things and through observation and discussion reach a conclusion about the child's developmental stage.

I would like to occasionally drop in to Music Class with my child because we can't come every week?

Drop in Classes are not available.  Making Music class part of your weekly routine is very important.  Children thrive on schedule and can get geared up for the coming music class.  This also makes for a fun time at home where you sing and play in "preparation" for coming back to next week's music class. Just as we have a "ritual" flow of music class with Aloha, warmup, dancing, singing, JAM, Story, lulaby, and goodbye.  You will see much more musical growth from a child who attends weekly classes then one who drops in occasionally.
