La-ti-Da "Music Explorers" Elementary Program
• An Fun Interactive Music program designed to give children the opportunity to continue music education. Sessions are usually once a week for 6-12 weeks and can either be incorporated into the school day or offered as an afterschool program.
Classes meet for 45 mins- 1 hour and are designed for either Grades k-2 "Lil Explorers" or Grades 3-5 "Big Explorers."
Activities are developmentally age appropriate and include playful, interactive musical fun that not only engages children but instills in them a genuine love for music.
(It’s a great class for those who have had the arts taken out of their school curriculum or who have shown an interest and would like some extra music time after school. )
There are three basic parts of the La-ti-Da "Adventurers" Program
1. Music
2. Movement and Dramatic Play
3. Art (optional)
• Added to each lesson is a core music element in which we expand the idea and learn in a fun, playful, creative inspiring class. Children walk away from each class with a deeper understanding of the element from the day.
• Example lessons include learning about a composer, hearing and playing/ dancing to his/ her pieces that day, learning a musical term maybe tempo, rhythm, adagio, melody etc and getting to sing, play instruments and move to music related to the daily lesson.
A class may focus on learning how to find the "beat" of the music. Some classes are designed around a project. For example, creating art about a certain composer or having the child make his or her own instrument.
• Children are encouraged to go home and “be the teacher” to his/ her parents, creating a great family bonding outside of the class.
La-ti-Da "Recorder Karate"
Children LOVE this program because they get to earn their way from a White Belt to a Black belt and even to a Grand Master in Recorder Karate. Each child is awarded a colored bead handing from a "belt" on his or her recorder once he or she completes the criteria for that belt. Upon reaching Grand Master level the child is awarded a certificate and"graduates" from Recorder Karate.
This class is designed for grade 3-5 and teaches the basics of playing the recorder combined with continuing knowledge of music. Children will learn how to play the recorder how to notate and read music and rhythms. Also taught will be basic ear training, music theory and some music history. Recorder class is a continuation of basics learned in La-ti-Da's enrichment class where the children take those basics and learn how to apply them musically. This class will also have take home practice, the students own recorder and materials to keep.
Recorder Club
Upon Completion of "Grand Master" a child can join the Recorder Club which meets once a week and works on recorder ensemble pieces. Children benefit from reading multiple parts, playing as a group. This really prepares a child for band.
